Strange & The Familiars

Strange & The Familiars’ storytelling songs guide the audience into the supernatural Strange World, a world in every way like ours with a magical twist. Combining wickedly crafted lyrics laced with dark humor and whimsical imagery, Strange & the Familiars lead captivated audiences through our world and the dreamscape, where humanity sits at a very real crossroads.
Combining jazz instrumentation with musical elements of funk and goth folk with theatrical sensibilities of vaudeville, influences range from the wry humor of Edward Gorey to the magical world building of Neil Gaiman and the eclectic avant-garde stylings of Laurie Anderson. With comic books that delve deeper into the Strange World and shadow puppetry that often accompanies the storytelling, Strange & the Familiars offers a unique multifaceted perspective on the direction that humanity is heading, where our salvation may very well lie in our ability to dream our way through this long, dark night.

Coven Dove

My career in performance began in early high school playing violin and viola in a nationally recognized symphonic orchestra. After graduation, I quickly found myself as the front woman of an indie-pop band in the University of North Texas music scene. Once I was out in the "real world", I became a corporate worker spending 9-5 in cubicle. But I didn't stop dreaming. In 2020, the market crashed and I was informed that the company I worked for could no longer afford to keep me on. So, I packed my car and moved from my studio apartment in Dallas, Texas up to a small cabin above a wood-shop in Washington State. It was there that I recorded and released my first 8-track demo album Mortality under the pseudonym Coven Dove.
Now, don't be fooled, I have been writing songs since I was 10, composing worlds in my room that I thought no one would hear. But it wasn't until college that I realized the stories I had inside me were endless, and I had to share. I've been working to connect with as many people as I can since, and I have found that so many live a life similar to mine - one full of love, loss, and magic. As a composer and a romantic, Coven Dove deep dives into humanity with soft eyes and an open heart. It's a project born out of influence from many different corners of art, music and literature.
You can find me with my guitar in coffee bars, clubs, and around campfires weaving heartfelt stories and sharing my experiences through song. Otherwise, I am probably in the studio, pulling tarot cards, or gazing at the stars.
